In addition to supporting and volunteering for a number of charitable organizations, Richard Albert has created scholarship awards to support hard-working students in need of financial assistance.
The Bloom-Greenfield Prize
The Bloom-Greenfield Prize is presented annually to a student who has shown perseverance, overcome one or more challenges, and earned the respect and admiration of her or his peers and teachers at the Edward Brooke High School in Boston, Massachusetts. The Prize is named after Professors Robert Bloom and Kent Greenfield, two of Richard Albert's former faculty colleagues at Boston College Law School. Both helped him at a critical point in his professional life. Richard Albert created this prize on the occasion of his 10-year anniversary as a law professor.
The Yvette Depestre Award
The Yvette Depestre Award for Commitment to Volunteer Service has been established by her son, Richard Albert, to honor his mother’s lifelong devotion to the service of others. The Yvette Depestre Award is presented annually to a graduating student at Gloucester High School in Ottawa, Canada, according to three criteria: financial need, a demonstrated commitment to volunteer service, and a possible career interest in health care.
The Frederick L. Albert Memorial Scholarship
This award is named after Frederick Albert (1939-2014), a health care professional who devoted his life to the service of others. His four children have endowed this annual award to recognize a graduating student at South Grenville District High School in Prescott, Ontario, according to three criteria: financial need, a career interest in health care, and a connection to farming, since farming was one of Frederick Albert's great joys.
Annual Fundraiser to Send Children in Haiti to School
Richard Albert hosts an annual fundraiser to sponsor children in Haiti to attend elementary school. The collective efforts of friends, colleagues, and good Samaritans have made it possible to send many children to school, giving them and their families hope for better lives, stronger communities, and ultimately a more stable and prosperous country. Richard Albert provides matching funds for lead contributions to this annual fundraiser.
